Mirror Mirror Movie Review
For a Snow White rendition, this one really does stay true to the family genre with minimal violence and sex themes. The film however seems to have focused more on the visual effects and over all snow white appeal rather than a well developed central plot. While it falls short if you are looking for a unique rendition of the snow white tradition, this is certainly one for the whole family and some light entertainment. Julia Roberts plays her role of the evil queen well with some humorous one liners, however she fails to truly captivate the audience. She is almost like a semi evil queen….once again holding true to the family genre.
Overall, the film manages to balance a generally faithful retelling the snow white story while simultaneously bringing a modern touch and gentle humour to the appeal. The script is clever and funny and the film does look great. Performances are nothing to rave about but Lily Collins role is refreshing yet typical of the Snow White role.
Mirror Mirror is a great light comedy for the family, but not one for those looking for something that goes beyond the traditional story telling of snow white. Mirror Mirror has modern elements and humour, but overall it is just another retelling of the Snow White story for family viewing.
